Great Salkeld is a small civil Parish with the unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria, a few miles north east of Penrith. With a population of approximately 400 people, this rural community is set in an idyllic setting, with the surrounding countryside supporting wildlife including buzzards, red squirrels, deer, kingfishers and otters.

The village itself houses a public house, The Highland Drove Inn, the Norman St Cuthbert’s Church, a Village Hall and a family-friendly play area in the old school field.  The Parish as a whole includes the village, the hamlets of North and South Salkeld Dykes, Halfywaywell, Inglewood Bank and Burrell Green.
