Great Salkeld has an active community Speedwatch group which is part of the Cumbria Police Speedwatch initiative. All volunteers under go training with Cumbria Police before they can go on duty with the speed gun. Volunteers go out in pairs to monitor the speed of vehicles at locations chosen and risk assessed by Cumbria Traffic Police officers. The speed gun and equipment is made available for one week to Eden villages on a rota basis.
