The Highland Drove Inn plays an essential role in the community of Great Salkeld. The last remaining public house in the village, its name appears to be a reference to the supposed origins of the village, as a stop off for traders on the way to market with their livestock.
Ownership of the pub has changed hands in recent years, and the most recent tenant has decided to give up the lease. This has led to local concern about the Highland Drove’s future. The owner, Mr Joshua Church, agreed to meet villagers to address their concerns in October 2022.
